Goals and Actions:

§ Improve student/staff information literacy, specifically independent location and access of information through facility upgrades, systematic collection maintenance, and design of collaborative instructional tools.

  • Facility/ Upgrades:
    • Converted to online library catalog system, Destiny, with increased functionality and home/school access
    • Added cluster seating for independent reading and small group collaboration / PTO Donation
    • Opened Technology Lab with 27 student computer workstations and 1 printer

  • Systematic Collection Maintenance:
    • Added 9 subscription databases aligned with SIS curriculum
    • Added 23 periodical subscriptions to increase free, voluntary non-fiction reading options for students
    • Created collection analysis using TitleWise
    • Labeled non-fiction shelves with Dewey classification
    • Revised labeling of fiction shelving due to new acquisitions

  • Design and Deliver Collaborative Research and Technology Instruction:
    • Designed and maintained a comprehensive SIS LMC web page to support information literacy and technology with extensive curriculum and professional development content, on-going
      • In-serviced staff on expanded content in April 2009
    • Authored (Grades 7 – 8) Information & Technology Literacy curriculum. Approved by Central Office.
    • Met with faculty at cluster meetings to ‘market’ collaboration, produced and published preliminary Curriculum Map resultant from these meetings
    • Designed and published a Current Events Pageflake for current events resources used across the curriculum
    • Revised SIS Research wiki for 24/7 research support for students
    • Revised SIS Cluster wiki’s for each (10) clusters as means of providing teachers tools to collaborate on information / communication literacy projects
    • Designed Internet Safety web quest for Grade 7; implementation projected for 2009/2010

§ Improve SIS Library Media Center utilization by students and staff.
  • Seek scheduling changes
    • On-going discussions for scheduling changes to building administration for SSR and Flex.
  • Improve effectiveness of SSR program
    • Pending Administrative Action - Proposal to improve student achievement against SSR objectives; under consideration of SIS Literary Team for 2009/2010
  • Implemented loan of flash drives to support students completing assignments that require in-school and home technology use.
  • Scantron equipment was recently acquired and is available for faculty use in the LMC back workroom.
